Partnership Working/Representation:
Partnerships have become a way of life for the voluntary and community sector. Welsh Assembly Government initiatives require them, funding opportunities make them necessary. Statutory partners often lead them, whilst umbrella bodies such as WCVA monitor and evaluate them.
The dilemma facing many voluntary and community groups is knowing which one they need to be involved with and what role they play when joining.
Experience indicates that partnership working requires hard work and commitment. The planning structures necessary to develop needs-led services are complex and can sometimes seem overwhelming but do offer the best opportunities for the voluntary and community sector to:
- Influence
- Plan
- Provide better services
- Build stronger communities.
Within Neath Port Talbot, the voluntary and community sector has embraced partnership working, working together with partners to benefit the local community. The recent provision of funding from Welsh Assembly Government to County Voluntary Council’s to support voluntary sector involvement in partnership working is acknowledgement of the crucial role the sector has to play in shaping and planning services.
